BG> Really, I've no idea what made me think otherwise, unless it was
BG> these two motherboards I have sitting here, both with fucked ISA slots.

RS> Doesnt really prove a damned thing, as I say, its considerably less
RS> likely than the other alts, the drive itself dying, or the paddle
RS> card, or even the ribbon. Its the least likely and trivial to eliminate.

BG> I've never had a faulty paddle card, cable, or hard drive.

So what ? That says SFA about the fault occurrence rate in the industry,
what I was actually commenting on.

BG> However, I have two boards with fucked ISA slots,

I repeat, thats of those ones you list, the least common.

BG> and a fucked SIMM slot.

Well SIMM sockets are completely irrelevant. Yes you can certainly get
failures of those, particularly the plastic retaining clips. Says SFA
about ISA slot sockets tho.

BG> Ergo, AFA I'm concerned, fucked slots are more likely than fucked
BG> cards or drives.

Well that just goes to show how you know SFA about a rational analysis
of fault statistics in an industry then. Your personal experience is
quite irrelevant when contemplating the likelihoods when looking at a
new fault in someone elses machine. I repeat, the card socket failure is
much less likely then the ribbon cable, the drive, the paddle card. And
trivial to eliminate from consideration if you care to eliminate it.

BG> That's been my experience, and I frankly don't give a fuck what
BG> happens elsewhere, because it's not relevant to me.

It is however relevant when looking at a new fault in someone elses machine.
Your personal experience in such tiny sample doesnt matter a stuff in fact.
Fundamental principle of statistics basically.

BG> On second thoughts, they're probably just fine, especially if they
BG> fail as rarely as you suggest.

RS> Bullshitting Bill.

BG> Sarcasm Rod.

Duh.
