subject: SPELLING...

DT>It has been suggested by research that approximated spellers
DT>do develop into accomplished spellers.
DT>Clarification on the above:
DT>Research doesn't merely suggest this but rather shows it to be true.
DT>Research has also shown that students who were allowed to approximate
DT>their spelling became more accomplished as spellers than students who
DT>were taught spelling using the more traditional method
If there is such research, you haven't yet cited it. I
haven't seen anything in any of your posts which would
indicate that conventional (which must ALSO include some
approximated spellings along the way) is LESS effective
than approximated spelling at teaching SPELLING...
DT>...(which I have already said doesn't work).
Gee... Worked ok for me and for a great number of my peers
who shudder whenever we read students' writing these days!
