IMO unless your cd or dvd -rw is in a serious filthy environment, it
should rarely to never need cleaning. I got a cdrw to read cds for a
while by disassembling it and cleaning the lens with photo lens fluid
and a Q-tip but ended up tossing it. I don't know of any way to safely
clean an optical drive.
