subject: Why the Romulans Left

MM> RM> Most fans are used to literally decades of (admittedly non-canon)
MM> RM> history, which TNG suddenly turned on it ear. Canon Trek has a long
MM> RM> history of ignoring and contradicting what has become "common
knowledge
MM> RM> among Trekkies, and this is just one more example of how TPTB ignored
MM> RM> and flouted all that had become "true."
MM>Sorry, I don't subscribe to the "Slap in the face of fandom" mindset.
MM>The people at Paramount have creative control over Star Trek. I often
MM>do not like what they do, but they have no obligation to research fan
MM>fiction -- or even Pocket Books fiction -- FASA role playing games, or
MM>anything else before writing their scripts.
No one said they do. But it is highly discourteous, at the very least,
to know that there is a whole fandom out there with certain
long-established ideas, and *every* time some aspect of that is
addressed in canon Trek, to go entirely contrary to that
long-established view. It's one thing to be TPTB and act accordingly.
It's quite another to in *every* instance flout and disregard the very
loyal fan base which is the only thing that brought Trek to the place it
is today.
