you'll note there's no entry for step_2 in the output even though it asked
about executing it... the lastrun date in the .dat file has not been
updated, either...

for my purposes, it is highly doubtful that i'll be using any
"ask" rules... however, a bug is a bug and a failure to operate
is not a good thing...
