The plain fact is your modem is "capable" of 33.6 but only is the telco world 
is running prefectly or rather ideally. You will contiue to get those speeds 
and maybe better, but for the most part your modems will be robust, in trying 
to maintain a hi-speed connection. As for the modem selection, you can play 
around and see what delievers better results but I don't think you'll see
