 Hi Den,

Boy, that's hitting the nail right on the head! As I mentioned to David,
this thing is soooooo different from anything else I've used, that, because
I want to go too fast, seem to be doing more swearing than anything else
(hahahah). So I've decided to slow right down and take my time with it, to
the point of almost forgetting what a relational DBMS is . I must admit
however that I am disappointed at the lack of some things. For example, in
a form, there is no navigation tool (top, bottom, previous, next), ya gotta
stick one in yourself (I saw a "class" for one) but yet even in Access 1,
there it was on the bottom of every form (by default!),even indicating which
record of how many. I haven't found form headers or footers yet (used them
all the time in Access). However, in spite of these small (and for the
oment
irritating) things, you can see VFP 5 is a real powerhouse (alright, I
confess, VFP 5 has me spell bound for the moment ). Ya gotta keep
in mind that until now, my main Windows Database was Access, not FoxPro
(Foxpro was my main Dos database). Even now, because of the lack of a few
Access "basics", I wonder if I should have gone the Access 95 route.....na,
I'll keep Access for my 16 bit apps and grow into VFP 5 for 32 bit - in the
long run I know I won't regret it.
Thanks for the info on the Mastering series. As far as VFP books are
concerned, I didn't see any on VFP anywhere in Windsor till about 2 months
ago! I did pick up VFP 3 Unleashed a few days ago for only $22 CDN - I
think almost everything in it will apply to 5, although some of 5's
interfaces have changed a bit from 3 (eg) like the table design one.
For Christmas I'm popping this new computer up to 48 megs from 16. I may
as well take advantage of the low prices. Remember when a meg cost a
grand (very late 80's in this neck of the continent)!
Den, here's wishing you and your family a safe, and very Merry Christmas.
