They trained me to be a mimic - spent holidays in Ayrshire 
convincing playmates I wasn't English, and terms in Rugby 
insisting I wasn't Scotch;  Hitler drowned me in William Joyce's 
radio sessions, and visited M'zelle Fifi de Pompom upon me (the 
French master went to war, and M'zelle immersed us in Francais) - 
not to mention the Canadian army that took over while everybody 
went to the world cup.

It took 2 days in Scotland recently for my family to disown their 
broad-speaking faither - and about the same time in England, Wales 
and Disneyworld.  Let me loose around German, French or Spanish 
speakers and I become a total liabilty  -  witness the 
international incident down at Waiouru when some senior Indonesian 
officers came up behind me unnoticed in the Mess as I was 
describing to friends a hilarious incident out in the field....

Mea culpa, matey, mea culpa...
