I've taken David Graser's adviceand steps on USB pen drive recognition as
definitive. Used current Still have problems with system freeze and LVM
refusing to load with the drive installed. (A SanDisk Cruzer 512mb.) (Tried
it with both a USB 1.1 port and a 2.0)

Took the device to a winxp machine, and to my dismay: instant recognition;
no problem. 

Are there differences among these pen drives, with some types probematic?
Is there an alternative routine to using Dfsee to first clean the boot
sector, etc, as per Mr Graser?
