subject: `Supermarket` Packet radio ?

Hi There and thanks for reading this message.
I wonder if any of your scanner or packet radio buffs can help me out ?
I was in my local supermarket ( Safeway ) the other week and whilst loading
my trolly, I noticed a chap with a hand held tranceiver clipped to his belt -
( It looked like a VHF unit although I couldnt get near enough to read the
frequency display ! )
The radio was making a familier buzzing sound every couple of seconds, this
sounded just like Packet radio. The radio was attached to a barcode scanner
which he was using this on the goods on the shelves, so i suppose he was
stock taking.
I just wondered if anyone knew which part of the radio spectrum was being
used for this job. Also would it be standard AX25 packet like Radio Hams
use ?
Any information on this subject would be welcome. Because it would be
interesting to see if I could decode any of the data.
I suppose it would be fun to keep up to date with the latest prices before
I going to the shops :-)
Many thanks & 73 from Paul in Lincoln.
