RT> WC> Diamond uses comit for dos meaning it'd be useless in Linux so it's
RT> WC> out.
RT>That's just the freebee software they bundle with it to get newbies
RT>up and running from their handbook. Many modem companies bundle COMit
RT>with their modems, others bundle QuickLink or some other like Bitware
RT>But if you want K56flex then there are some Diamond Supra Express out
RT>there which are the old K56Plus standard and are not upgradeable (you
RT>have to send it in for a swap, Diamond Supra is doing this, but it's a
RT>pain if you find you have one)
RT> WC> 14,400 and is annoying. i'm looking for a modem kflex, jumper
RT> WC> configurable, preferally software upgradable, hardware data
compression
RT> WC> and error correction.
RT>All the Zoom K56flex are fully software upgradable and meet your spec
RT>Look for:
RT>Model 2844 for PC, Model 2845 for Macintosh,
RT>and Model 2848 PC/Macintosh combo
dl'ed manuals and found no indication of hardware compression or
error correction, at least in Zoom or Supra K56. software configurable
for dos generally means it's RPI. you may perhaps know more about modems
than i, no great feat, but unless it specifically _says_ it'll support
Linux or is hardware compression and error correction i'll not buy it.
actually i'm leaning toward Motorola VoiceSurfer, no the data pump isn't
flashable and it'll have to be shipped for ITU standard but they did send
me a neat T-shirt for filling out a survey.
just how they knew i was an extra large gives me
a bit of jitters as it wasn't on the survey. Diamond SupraExpress almost
had a sale but in all it's ref.pdf manual not one mention of Unix
compatability or Dos without special software. it's slow, my no name
modem but very configurable and can achieve 31k with ws_ftp and
some 19,020 BBS'ing, never had reason to regret buying it 2 1/2 yrs.
ago for 52.00. maybe if i waffle a bit more the standards will arrive
before i buy, in which case i'll have the dollars to replace my system
too. thanx for your reply. Best regards.
