I came up with this idea of taking popular Fidonet conference names to the
web. This
is mainly an experiment to see if it’s even possible.
Members will have to register an account here, which only takes a valid
email address
to send your generated password to. Each member can personalize their
member profile
with an avatar and social links etc.
The advantage of this is privacy, this system collects no personally
identifiable
data, with the exception to what members share online and in their
profiles. Members
can share links, photos, videos, etc. Also if this does take off and gets
popular
search bots will index the topics and recent posts etc. A twitter account
can be set
up to post new topics / replies. This site also has email notifications if
you choose
to follow a topic.
The disadvantage is, no gating to the Fidonet Backbone. No QWK transfers.
But it’s
easy enough to copy / paste a text post from a bbs to here.
What do y’all think? An example web conference is here.
