Off the cuff, Netbios is one of the slowest, IPX/SPX is next slowest, and IBM
Lanserver protocol is fastest. TCPIP is in there somewhere but of a
completely different nature. Much of this depends on your hardware. Tests
have shown time and again that Warp Server 4 is the fastest file and print
server available for x86 class hardware. One test I saw, showed WS4 on a
single P100 outperforming a 4 processor P100 SMP Win Nt 3.5 server. Also, no
x86 platform can run Notes server faster than WS4. WS4 uses IBMs LanServer
protocol for direct connection. Although it also supports NETBEUI as well as
IPX/SPX and IP protocols as well as a few more esoteric protocols.
I don't have access to specific data showing speed of protocols.
