My son is now 16, the hospital was in the Hartford area. The testing took a
month or two, what with the family interview with a psychologist, hearing and
vision, etc.
I don't think mental retardation was considered in my son's case, although he
has two identified learning disabilities (both common in ADD kids) and showed
some coordination difficulties which have never been noticed anywhere else.
(That last came from an occupational therapist, and I forget what she said.)
My wife and I actually suspected Fetal Alcohol Effect, but the experts said
no. I'm not convinced they really know how to diagnose it, but it isn't
treatable anyways so if Ritalin works, that's where we go.
