ST> I plan on going to Bouchercon next year also!
See ya!
ST> That is what I have been doing, was hoping I was doing the "right"
ST> thing.
"Right" depends on the store, the owners, etc.
IK> dealers. Walk out with a couple $125 or $325 or armload or $25
IK> (British "firsts") books or something ... and we get 20%.
ST> We don't have anything like that. Although the other book store I am now
ST> working in is on the Interlock System, matching rare books to people who
ST> want them.
Interloc. We do that too, jointly, with the Collectors Corner people. The
problem is that most people are just looking for reading copies of books
which only were published in paperback ... and won't be in any dealers'
inventory ... only musty old used book stores which wouldn't dream of keeping
an inventory much less making it available on the Internet, etc.
IK> Our store runs on BookLog (software). It tracks total $ by customer,
IK> last time in store, avg. sale, etc. There's 100 people who make up
IK> 40% of our business. There's another 400 who make up the next 40%.
ST> That is what we use at the other store I work at (Books Abound). At MMM
ST> we use Anthology. There are MANY things about it I don't like.
Do you own a chunk of one store?
What do you not like about Booklog? My view is that it's the least bad
system available. Also, there's a zillion versions, and people complain in
many cases because of what the older versions were like and/or because they
never upgraded.
