What you might try keeping during this transistion period is a purse
project. It's small enough to fit in your purse and involved enough
that you won't finish it to quickly.  Then when you find yourself stuck
somewhere you pull it out and you have something to work on in a pinch.
I have one that fits in a small plastic box, but I do beads so its not
hard to get a lot in a small space.  I've got a treasure purse (aka
amulet bag) that I'm working on, when I get to the fringe I'll put
something else in.
