subject: weekend frolics

I spent more time on the 'puter this weekend than I anticipated, but it had
some wonderful results. It all started with some educational games and files
that I got from Regina Finan. Once I started installing those, I couldn't
stop. The next thing I did was try to reinstall some stuff whose files became
corrupted. One thing I had to kill completely (a file called Animal Quest -
it kept freezing on us and we never did find out why). But then I got into
our diskette boxes and began to install stuff that had been on the kids'
computer before it died.
While going thru the diskettes doing this, I found our video driver card.
We've had troubles with being unable to run a commercial program given to us
by my brother last Christmas, and a couple of other programs, because "driver
card doesn't support 256 color graphics". Got the right driver for Windows
installed, and now we can run all that kind of stuff! YAY!
In the meantime, my kids are in 7th heaven - Treasure Mountain, Yogi Bear
Visits the National Parks (a program my mom found in a bargain bin for $5 -
it's CGA but it's really good for learning about the national parks and what
they have to offer!), and a few other favorite programs are now installed on
our computer. I've had competition for using the computer all day! When they
get up and find that they can *finally* see what's on that "San Diego Zoo
Presents the Animals" CD ROM that they've had since last Christmas, I'm
afraid I may not see my 'puter all day tomorrow. (grin) (BTW, all the
programs listed in this paragraph are commercial.)
I want to try getting another copy of that Animal Quest and trying again. It
seemed like a pretty nice program - if only I could get it to run on my
system. It's a Science food-chain program!
