Here in New England we would get them in the ground about now
(before the ground freezes 8-). If I was down your way I would
check with the local horticultural society for a better date.
We generally plant them 12" deep, in triangler groups; with some
chicken wire a few inchs below the surface to make it difficult
for squirrls digging them up if that is a problem in your area.
BTW Might you be related to Doctor Don Hamm, Chief Radiologist,
Franklin Co. Hospital, Greenfield, MA back in the fifties and an
early user of nuclear iodine to scan thyroids (bought a barber
chair to facilitate positioning patients during the relatively
long scan time 8-) ?
