The only drives out there were the IEEE drives for PET and the VIC-1540 which didn't work with the 64. The ROM upgrade for it wasn't out yet. We LOVED the cassette drive! Especially after the format was revealed to save two complete copies of the program for every save command. It was a very reliable system that compared the second copy automatically. Once we knew what was going on we hacked the ROM routines to only save one copy and cut save and load times in half. The tape drive was still reliable enough to have practically no errors.
