Could well be as the manufacturers of _generic_ listings for Pavilion DIMM's seems to also list Compaq DIMM's. I found only 8 listings for DIMM's at google with keywords "Pavilion" "4483" "DIMM" :-( One was of course H.P.and very pricey. Naturally there are no 'sales' and the CA> price is quite high. Yup, a single generic supplier that claims compatability comes in at 27 dollars/128 Meg. while H.P. is nearly double that. I would call CA> HP and _ask_ them rather than spend the weeks my friend did CA> trying to pin this down? I'm going another way. CA> I never did upgrade the memory btw. :-\ I'm going to wait for a similar machine to be offered used with 128 Meg RAM, at least one such chip and go that way. I'll never buy any of these proprietary systems new for the very reasons listed above. I can at least use the listing at H.P.'s web site to get the list for Pavilions using the same RAM DIMM's. No mention of upgrading the processor anywhere either :-( Next system I'm getting as a kit from Pricewatch after evaluating motherboards at least that way you can buy stuff that takes cheap generic parts and RAM, start with a lower speed processor and upgrade as prices fall. Gigbyte has a pretty amazing board IIRC will take 4 Gig RAM, 4 Ghz Pentium and every port, slot and option you could possibly want, just under 500 dollars at pricewatch as a kit case, power suppy, 2.5 GHz Pentium processor but no drives. --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.43* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:275/311) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 275/311 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
