IK> the place.) Yes, I got my SISTERS IN CRIME NEWSLETTER for June,
IK> and noticed you. There can't be two people with the same name in
 IK> Mystery-dom.
ST> Gee, I don't remember seeing that. Sometimes those newsletters get filed
ST> while I have a couple of days off! :-( And yes, there is ONLY ONE SUZZE!
Bright yellow paper insert. June issue. If you can recover it, or it shows
up, you'll want to keep it for reference.
IK> What do you do with the piles and piles of page proofs? (You said
ST> We often give them to customers after the book comes out. And we do have
ST> cutstomers review them for us.
The ones we give to customers are more likely given BEFORE the book comes
out. They are normally given to customers who spend a LOT of money here. The
ones that aren't given to someone, get "shipped" "elsewhere." My basement
holds too many of them....
ST> "MEG" by Steve Alten. I guess this isn't a mystery
 ST> either, but an action
ST> packed adventure! As a quote on the cover says "Jurassic Shark". A
ST> prehistoric giant shark has survived deep in the sea for millions of
MEG is sitting in our showcase "dump" directly in front of the door. The
Jurassic Shark is being wise cracked at steadily.
IK> We put all "Thrillers" on the Mystery side of the store (usually).
 IK> Clancy, Robin Cook, etc.
ST> We have 3 sections - Mystery, Suspense, Intrigue. Robin Cook would be in
 ST> Suspense, Clancy in Intrigue.
Disregarding subsections (e.g. anthologies) and "new books," one side of our
store is SF&F while the other is Mystery. The back wall is Horror. A chunk
of the Mystery side, in the far back, is True Crime and True Spy. There are,
carved out of the two sides, mini-sections for Writing/Criticism,
Non-fiction/reference/related, Magick, and a couple other oddities. (There's
also a roller-shelf of magazines, in the front.)
It's a fight, often enough, re sf&f vs. mystery. There's NO way we'd
subdivide by Supsense and Intrigue. Dean Koontz ends up with copies in all
three main sections, on most books. Clancy and R.Cook are just under C's in
the Mystery section, except Clancy's SSN, ARMORED CAV, etc. have most of
their copies in the Non-fiction/Reference/Related.
