Yesterday while noseing around local smaller airports, I noticed a Yak-52 at
the Longmont, Colorado airport. It appeared to be in good condition but the
seat belt was not locked around the control stick and the ailerons were
banging stop to stop in the gusty wind. This plane is a 2 seat advanced
trainer used in many ocuntries and looks much like a T-6 on tricycle gear. It
has a padddle blade prop and the shutters on the front of the engine that
control cylinder head temps. As I remember from looking at one in detail at
PHX a couple of years ago, it uses compressed air for gear retraction and
engine starting. Very interesting bird.
