 Sounds like my landladies system and why she upgraded.
 She's a _cable modem_ and with XP on the machine I walked away from
 it rather than browse it was so slow.

 I count 14 here on the task bar most of which amount to nothing but
 I'm going to remove Netscape's browser, keep Explorer,
 keep Netscape mail and delete Outlook Express.
 That right there hacks things down by half resourcewise I expect.
