  Uh, is NICAM a British brand name? I'm not familiar with the word. Though I 
haven't used it for this purpose, I have a Sony Beta hi-fi VCR, which has an 
input on the back for a digitial signal. All I need is an outboard A/D 
converter.
  Even old entry-level Betas could take digital inputs.
