BS> ROTFLMHO !!! I love it! I'm surprised that USR sold so many
BS> Sportster modems ... the manuals were almost non-existent! After my
BS> Zoom manual of over 200 pages, the pamphlet that came with the 14.4
BS> Sportster was an absolute pathetic joke!!! In calling it a pamphlet I
BS> am being exceedingly kind ... more like a dozen pages or so :-(((
My experience has been completely different. The only Zoom modem I've ever
owned was one of the old 2400bps RPI units, but its manual was no thicker
than the "pamphlet" (actually a set-up guide) that came with each of my
Sportsters. Based on what you wrote, I take it the newer/better Zoom models
come with more complete documentation; that's good to know.
The Sportster _manual_ is actually a text-file available for download from
USR's BBS...it may be on their Web or ftp site also, but I've only looked
for it on the BBS. This text-file is large and _very_ thorough, unlike the
booklets that came packaged with both the Zoom and the Sportsters.
I'd prefer that USR include the manual in the modem's retail package, or at
least make a printed manual available to registered owners. (Best, of
course, would be for every manufacturer to include both printed and
text-file versions included with the retail package.) Although the printed
version has plenty of advantages, I'll admit I'm spoiled by having
documentation I can search with a text-editor.
