Well, I have set the environment variable GCCOPT=-Wall -pipe... however, 
let's see... it works here exactly as you have it...

Good mystery.  :-)  What fixpak (OS/2) are you running?  How about the gcc 
environment variables (gccopt, c_include_path, etc.)?  And, if you get 
OS2PROG, perhaps you could move this there.  :-)
