It depends upon the quality of the cable. There are extra long cables 
which are low loss and double screened.
It depends upon how the printer communicates with the PC. HP Desk and 
LaserJets used to be able to be attached to longer cables as they had 
better control of the data being transfered. Note however with HP and 
other  "quality" printers, the cable needs all (or I think at least 25) 
connectors through it. Some cheaper cables have a far lower number of 
cores, which work with non-HP printers but only for shorter distances.

Basically if someone is advertising a 15 or 25 foot cable, check how 
many cores it has and whether it is screened from interference.
