In the good old Dos epoque printers (dekjet 500 etc...) had their own inbuild fonts and the not only the operating system but also the applications had to know about it. So, you needed no driver to print from Dos (as Dos new about the printer's "defaults", and the printer could accept some standard codes from Dos ), but any application running in Dos needed a specific (build/coded into the application) printer driver, otherwise you couldn't have any print from the application). Anyway, in a situation like this you could/can say the printer has a "default" font. We still are talking about HP Deskjets, aren't we? Now, during the course of times, the HP Deskjets have evolved from having quite a lot inbuild fonts to nil inbuild fonts (the HP 9* series for example, and of course all that came later). I have no "real" Dos available anymore I'm afraid. But if in a VDM , for my HP 990Cxi, I perform a dir > lpt1, the print out is in the DEFAULT font as set in the in the OS2 printer driver object. You can easely check it for yourself by doing the same (dir > lpt1): you'll see the message on top (The volume label --- etc) is in small letter, and not in capital letter as it would (have been) in "real" Dos. So, as we are speaking about OS2, imho you only should worry about the printer driver, which in respect to HP Deskjets is omni.drv in the directory \os2\dll\omni. The good news on top of that is the same applies to all printers driven by omni.drv, thus not solely HP Deskjets. And more good news, again the same applies to printers driven by laserjet.drv (os2\dll\laserjet) and pscript.drv (os2\dll\pscript). Only thing to watch is, as I already wrote in the past, some specific HP Deskjets are not driven by omni.drv but laserjet.drv or pscript.drv instead. -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris http://www.taartenbakkerij.com/bestanden/warpstock-europe-2005-dresden.jpg http://www.taartenbakkerij.com/bestanden/zum_weberplatz.jpg ------------------------ Yahoo!
