| subject: | [OS2HW] CD noise |
I'm hearing a noise out of a relatively young CDRW. Maybe I can describe it and maybe someone can tell me if it's "scary." It can be just purring along with its whirring sound, when suddenly it gets considerably louder and does an eeeeYOOOWWWWWW - a slight drop in pitch. And it vibrates a lot more. It reminds me of hearing somewhere an electric motor running freely and that suddenly has a load thrown on it. Or one with a poorly lubricated bearing that finally got hot enough to vibrate and pull down. Is the latter exactly what's happening of is there some cyclic process they go through that sounds like this? Jim L, via eCS 1.15 version of OS/2 ------------------------ Yahoo!
