DB>I saw your post about sleep pillows...is there any other herbs that
>might be helpful or other herbs that will do other things....sinus,
>snore, colds, tension, etc..... Thanks for the postings they are GREAT!!
Well I am not sure about what other herbs do, a friend (my daughters
god-mother) turned me on to the lavender and hops. I have sinus
problems, when I lay down to sleep I would get stuffed up, but the sleep
pillow seams to help with that a little too. I gave one to my mom while
we were at an SCA event which was really dusty and cold. When I gave
this to her she wrapped up in her heavy cloak with it in her arms right
under her chin, a few minutes later she said she was able to breath a
little easier.
You might go to a library and look up some herb books and see what
they have to say, or you might find an Herb Shop and just go in and talk
to the people there and see what they have to say. I think the library
would be your best bet though because so many people are afraid to pass
on info on things for fear of people taking their word for "gospel"
rather that seeking medical help for things that may turn out to be life
threatening.
I have one book (Actually a few pages of a book) my friend gave me
that says angelica, lavender, valerian, peppermint, lemon balm,
chamomile, catnip, thyme and a few other herbs are good for insomnia
when infused and drunk as a tea. These same herbs are also good for
tension. For colds you might try angelica, anise, bay, chamomile,
comfrey, lovage, marjoram and oregano, peppermint, spearmint and thyme
as a tea. For insect bites try feverfew, savory, goldenseal, lemon balm,
and comfrey by applying fresh leaves or poultice of softened dry leaves.
Please remember that these are not a replacement of good medical advice
but maybe something you could use while waiting to see your doctor.
There is also a echo for herbal info called "Herbs-n-Such" if your bbs
does not carry it ask your sysop.
