When I bought my Plextor DVD burner a couple of years back it cost very 
little more than any other "name brand," such as Sony or Pioneer. I 
chose Plextor because I had been very satisfied with several of their 
CD-ROM drives.

Any "name brand" product can be expected to cost more than the no-name 
or el-cheapo items, the contents of whose packages change from week to 
week, depending on which manufacturer had a bunch of stuff to get rid of 
at that time.
