> Because these are shareware a good many are crippled.
If they are crippled and shareware, the technical name is crippleware. Please
also be aware of the difference between crippleware and shareware that
doesn't include the more advanced features. There's a *big* difference.
Crippleware means that you actually cannot run portions of the program
because they've taken out a critical file. This means you cannot get the full
flavor of the software and decide if it will work for you. OTOH, if shareware
lets you run the features, but doesn't include more advanced modules, that's
not crippled. It's an inticement to purchase the rest of the program.
Example of shareware without advanced modules:
MathRescue (only includes the first story). Treasure Math (only includes
addition and multiplication, you buy the module to get the subtraction and
division. In both of these, you get the full idea of the program and then
when you register, they send you a thank you in the form of more advanced
stuff.
I can't think of any examples of actual
crippleware lately. One board that I call occasionally will delete anything
that he finds out is crippleware.
Regina, I really appreciated that list of software. Is any of it available
for freq'ing from your system?
