MP> There IS plennty of work out there for those who want it.

MH> Obviously the comments of someone who hasn't been
MH> forced to confront the reality of todays labour market.

RS> I think its just a TAD unlikely that those were the only jobs
RS> that ever turned up in your town Mick. Yes, those particular
RS> jobs may well be mostly suitable for kids working part time.

MH> During that time the only local jobs listed at the CES were "Aboriginal
MH> Designated Positions" or for attendants in a womans refuge.

Yes, plenty dont bother to list their jobs with the CES when
there are plenty of people looking for work Mick. So you have
to get off YOUR arse and go and hunt up those jobs yourself.
Its the people who have DONE that who have GOT the jobs while
the likes of you just have a winge about how awful things are.

MH> In this Summer Holiday town, you have to know the right people just to
MH> hear about the jobs let alone actually have a chance to apply for them.

Thats crap Mick. You will find that if you get off your arse and
go looking, some will find it convenient to employ someone who has
that sort of get up and go and turns up at the right moment too.

MH> Through the winter you might a well hibernate.

So stop wingeing and try somewhere else Mick. The whole of NSW aint like that.

There are also some considerable holes appearing in your
story too Mick. There is the TINY matter of this bit.

MH> What did I get out of this? I lost my job and my house and the
MH> stress contributed to dumping me on an Invalid Pension scrap heap.

That looks SUSPICIOUSLY like the usual dole bludger ploy of moving
over to the invalid pension to avoid having to bother with the job test.
Particularly the use of a very conveniently untestable medical problem.

RS> And lets not forget the considerable numbers who choose to MOVE to
RS> places like the Sunshine Coast, where there is a considerable shortage
RS> of jobs for people like that, who basically just find that the standard
RS> of living on the dole there suits them fine and are happy to bludge
RS> for as long as we are silly enough to keep handing the money out.

MH> I agree that there are many bludgers out there who could easily be caught.

Oh good.

MH> At the same time I don't see anything wrong with
MH> unemployed people moving to somewhere that their dole
MH> will cover more than just the cost of rent and heating.

Pity that they just happen to move to an area where there are bugger
all jobs for people like that, and there just happens to be great
surf and beaches Mick. Soorree, the dole aint a scheme to pay for your
lifestyle in a place many would LOVE to just loll around for years in.
Its a JOB SEARCH ALLOWANCE. Clearly they aint searching for jobs by
deliberately moving to a place whether there are bugger all jobs Mick.

MH> When there are only jobs for 10 - 20% of the unemployed what
MH> harm does it do for a few people to only go through the motions
MH> of looking for work and making the most of what little they have,
MH> if nothing less it gives the serious job seekers a better chance.

They are deliberately choosing to move to a place where
there are bugger all jobs Mick. Soorree, you shouldnt
get the job search allowance if you choose to do that.

Same applys to the likes of Nimbin too.

MH> If they refuse work then persecute them to the full extent
MH> of the law, then they can have a job, at the Long Bay Hilton

Just stop paying them the job search allowance will do fine.

RS> You could also try getting off your bum and
RS> qualifying for better jobs than a KFC droid too.

MH> I'd love to do something useful in the way of education, but
MH> all that is available here is mickey mouse time filler courses
MH> like introduction to microcomputers course offered by the "local"
MH> TAFE College, where half the class knows more than the tutor.

Dont try running that pathetic line of bullshit with me Mick. Get
off your arse and move up the coast a bit to where there are better
courses. LOTS of people have to do stuff like that, why shouldnt you ?

It looks remarkably like you have CHOSEN to just bludge on welfare.

MH> If you want education you need to move which takes
MH> money and if you are on the dole them you have already
MH> used up your resourses before you qualify for it.

What complete and UTTER tripe Mick. Those bludgers managed to
move to the Sunshine Coast or Nimbin or the North Coast fine
Mick. And you DONT have to use up your resources before you
qualify for the dole, you are being deliberately dishonest.

RS> Yes, but there are STILL a VAST number of people starting new jobs.
RS> So if you aint one of those, you should consider why THEY managed to.

MH> Do you have any indepenant proof of this,

Yes, the statistics on new jobs are released periodically,
forget now if thats done monthly or 3 monthly. Trot down
to your local library, you can look the up there anytime.

MH> all the figures I have seen show that the number of people
MH> going off the dole is equal to the number of people going onto
MH> government "make work" schemes, training cons oops programs etc.

Thats complete and utter crap Mick.

MH> and most of those are only run in major
MH> centres not in rural and coastal areas

Thats utter tripe too. Virtually any town of any size
at all has some form of SkillShare etc and it doesnt
have to be that much bigger to have TAFE etc too.

Get off your bum and improve your employability. Corse you
dont really want to do that, you might get offered a job then.

RS> Or you chose to loll on welfare instead of actually getting
RS> off your bum and making yourself employable. A HELL of a lot do,

MH> It would have been a lot easier for me to have
MH> moved to the city, lived in a cardboard box

Soorree, the people in the city dont live in cardboard boxes.

In fact its quite trivial to live in quite acceptible accommodation
in the city on the dole. Sure, it may not be the flashest, thats life.

MH> and got a job digging ditches except for a couple of minor points,

The main one being you would rather bludge on welfare and dream
up all sorts of fanciful storys about why you have no alternative.

MH> 1. I had to use up all the money I had before I qualified for the dole.

Thats a complete and UTTER lie. You dont even have to dispose of
your house either if you happen to have one when you lose your job.

MH> 2. My dole would have been terminated for
MH> moving to an area of high unemployment.

So move to one of LOWER unemployment dorko. That aint necessarily
hard when coming from a country town either. Sydney qualifys for
example. AND that particular requirement was binned anyway.

MH> 3. Physical injuries from an industrial accident
MH> and a couple of motor cycle accidents have prevented
MH> me from doing serious labour for twenty years.

No problem, the vast bulk of jobs in the current job market arent
heavy manual labor. You clearly dont have any problem sitting on your
bum in front of a computer screen. There are plenty of jobs like that.

MH> 4. I couldn't carry my medications in a backpack,
MH> let alone everything else I would have needed.

Crap.

MH> 5. I could never get myself together, physically and mentally to do it.

Yes, you CHOOSE to bludge on welfare instead.

RS> its quite possible that what we are actually seeing with the
RS> minimums that the unemployment rate gets to thru the economic
RS> cycles increasing all the time is just more and more finding that
RS> welfare provides an acceptible standard of living that they are
RS> prepared to loll on for decades if we are silly enough to let them.

MH> Or it could be that the base rate keeps rising because
MH> technology is cutting out so many jobs with inadequate
MH> replacements as was predicted by the computer industry in
MH> the late 1960's, when I first started learning about computers,

RS> Soorree, we KNOW that cant be true because the total number of people
RS> IN work keeps increasing all the time. Yes, that stuff is certainly
RS> happening, BUT the number of jobs keeps increasing even more anyway.

MH> Pity the increase in REAL jobs hasn't kept up with the participation rate.

Fraid they are Mick. The unemployment rate
has been dropping for quite some time now.

MH> Pity the Luddites of the union movement and Govt burried their heads in
MH> the sand and pretended the problems would never arise because they didn't
MH> like the idea of change. Rational planning at that time could have led to
MH> solutions / workarounds being in place and everybody gaining from automatio

RS> Soorree, all that stuffs a complete wank. The current unemployment
RS> rate has SFA to do with that. You might care to explain how the US
RS> has an unemployment rate of only 5% if the problem is automation.

MH> Minimal unionisation, weak unions, slave wages,
MH> negliable welfare system and massive crime rate.

None of which have a damned thing to do with the
automation you claimed was destroying all the jobs Mick.

MH> If you can't get a job, go into business for
MH> yourself mugging, burgling, drug trading etc.

Soorree, we actually found that the rate of that stuff DROPPED during the
recession, primarily because the market for the stolen goods dropped off too.

You'll be halfway thru to china in that hole you are digging soon Mick.

MH> Instead all the unions or government can come up with is
MH> to turn the country into a nation of waiters and bar staff,

RS> Soorree, they amount to a tiny percentage of the total jobs.

MH> When was the last time you went the joys of the CES
MH> programs for the long term unemployed or even hear
MH> of them giving any support to the recently unemployed.

Soorree, not interested in this wanky stuff, its just the usual public
service bullshit exercise. And the plugs just been pulled on it anyway.

MH> If you do have real information pass it on to the Batemans
MH> Bay CES, the only programs they know about are for politicly
MH> correct minorities, they ain't even interested in anyone else.

Funny, could have SWORN you claimed to have got on one of
those yourself Mick, an Invalid Pension for 'stress'. Oops.
