Spake Harry,
Don refers to a specific card or adapter which enables connection of ide
devices to a scsi controller. It starts at about $80. "Acard"
.Search with "ide scsi adapter" or even better search terms to
learn more.

I won't argue whether for home use it is necessary. But, every mfg of cd
writers hedge their confidence in the ide bus by urging that the computer
be given over to the single task of writing, "burn proof" or no.

Daniela Egbert referred to this device in a post sometime in the last 18 months.

Your Mother Board does not have a built in EIDE adapter??? I would use
that for the DVD Drive, and SCSI for everything else...

Or, if you have the PCI Slots for it, a EIDE connector....
