A good question. The even bigger question is how long has Pakistan got.

You have the areas east of the Indus (Punjab, Sindh etc )which have been in
essence Indian (even more so as Indian Muslims moved there) & those to
the West which have been "afghan" (i.e. tribes which don't really
recognize the border at all (esp Pathan & Baluchi).

The "afghans" are basically in open revolt while the
"indians" are steadily getting closer to India itself as they
realise they are closer to Indians than to Afghans/Persians.

e.g. The dear General was born in Delhi & as such is an "indian".

My preferred option would be a greater India at peace with Muslims & a
greater Afghanistan where the border is once more the Indus.

The 2 post ww2 theo-ethnic states (Pakistan & Israel) are the 2 major
sources of instability, one being the home for the AQ Caliphate types &
the other the home of the Zionist (neo (inc Christian) & neo-old
(Judaic)) types.

theo-ethnicity has proven to be deeply destabilizing in part because the
"ethnic" part can in effect be changed via a change in the
"theo" part. I.e. I adopt Judaism et voila I have a place waiting
in Israel. Equally I am an ethnic Indian in Bombay or Delhi & I adopt
Islam & there's a place waiting in Pakistan.

Within the countries involved the destabilizing is plain to see as well
e.g. in Pakistan, while all might be "muslim".....that doesn't
help you in Baluchistan if you're an "indian".
