Assuming you are using SNAP Graphics, that would be one large desktop.

No. As I understand it, that just lets you have a text-only console in addition to
the regular screen.

1x/2x are slotted differently from 4x/8x. Some motherboards have an AGP slot
without any separators, which (in theory, at least) means that any AGP card can be
used. The majority of recent motherboards with an AGP slot (the newest ones
have PCI Express instead) are slotted for 4x/8x only. Some cards are slotted such
that they will fit in any AGP slot, but the newer/better ones are slotted for 4x/8x
only. To make things even more confusing, there are even some 2x cards that
are incorrectly slotted to fit in any AGP slot, and will fry a 4x/8x motherboard
because the chipset doesn't support the different voltage (a poor design choice, in
my opinion).
