1237a692d339 win95 Hello Jean - JP>> Just for fun, I will lend an ear. CA>> An old automotive trick: JP> A friend was bargaining a used car and had me tag along. My father told me when I was a teenager that "... no one sells a car that is working for them". It tends to be true that as long as the automobile starts, runs, stops, and the heater/radio are working people will drive it even if the paint is peeling. As soon as it stops or requires "x amount" of money to repair they dump it. I tell my children to not look for a 'good used car' but to anticipate varying degrees of not so good. You assume there will be repairs and work towards finding the one with the most tolerable amount. Friends would often buy cars based solely on the condition of the body and exterior then arrange for remanufactured engines and new radiator/heater cores. It costs a bit but they had a new-old car to drive. :-) JP> The dealer was some amazed when out came a 3' screwdriver. JP> I placed it on the engine as a stethoscope. Did not buy the JP> car. Yes, the early 'bone phone'. That works too but if the engine is idling rough it bangs into your head. The rubber hose fits into a toolbox much easier and won't pound you senseless working on a really badly tuned vehicle. :-) Before my time men used a vacuum guage when cars all had carburetors. I still have one in with my tools but seldom am able to use it with most vehicles having fuel-injection now. fwiw: I never taught my sons to work on cars, they can't even do a tuneup. It was the only way I could think of to stop them from changing a water pump in a thunderstorm. I tell them to get a job selling women's shoes. ;-) > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
