Newegg.com is selling a well-recieved naked  NEC DVD ND-3540A - OEM writer
that does it all for $41US + free shipping. (naked being w/o software)
Curiously, made in Malaysia, not China. You'll pay about twice that for a
Plextor (I own 2 plextors).

Thanks.  I guess that leaves one guessing between brands that have all
dropped the quality ball at one time or another.  For that matter I
doubt Plextor can boast a perfect record.
