I recall, in some of my college psychology classes, that the use of
sleep deprivation definately adds to the ability of mind control, or at
least much more suceptable to the input you are exposed too.
This tactic is used by many groupd.

They're pretty slick about their presentations like slipping in Amway into
the presentation so as you really have to listen for it and other things.
