     I understand it's because the automatic transmission has A TRANSMISSION 
COOLER.  In all my years of drag racing (professionally, not JUST on the 
street!) I never saw a car with a manual transmission that had a transmission 
cooler.  If you'd like, I can dig up the manual and give you the exact 
figures for the 1996 RAM.  It was like 5,000+ lbs. versus 7500+ lbs., just 
off the top of my head.
