I am the proud owner of a Legend 4 wheel scooter. It was purchased
for me by my HMO, Kaiser Permanente, after much delay and bureaucratic
garbage. I guess they finally realized that I was not going to forget about
it.
My question is this. Currently, the only vehicle that I have, which is
equipped with hand controls, is an old, 3/4 ton, Chevrolet pick-up
truck. The truck bed is 32 inches above the ground. What are my options
to get my scooter up and down from the truck bed? According to the data
that I've seen a ramp, which should not exceed a 15 degree incline, would
have to be at least 11 and a half feet in length to meet that requirement.
Not to mention the weight and difficulty of deploying such a
monstrosity, unless it somehow folded, it wouldn't even fit in the truck
bed. Of course, cost is a major object also. Is there anyone out there that
has overcome a similar problem? Are there any suggestions?
When my ship comes in, I intend to get some type of van. At least
that's the plan, but for now I want to use my scooter away from home and
for that I need to get it onto the truck. While I'm at it, are there any
suggestions regarding the 'best' brand and model of van to use for
transporting a scooter. I probably won't be able to get a new one,
however, any suggestions and information are welcome.
Thanks, in advance, for your help. Take care.
