I would like to suggest that more people try the genealogy route to
find the people they are looking for.
     One of the members of our AIM group had known his mother's name,
her date of birth, and place of birth.  He was also lucky enough to have
gotten her original birth certificate.  The last name was a very common
name.
     Armed with this information, he made contact with a profession
genealogist who was able to find her.
     The end result is that she was very happy to hear from him, (he
called her) and they are planning on getting together very soon.  He
lives here in Michigan and she is in Florida.
The bottom line is; never let any avenue available to you go unused!
