On (08 Aug 96) James Mcgrail Rambled On To Adrian Worley...
AW> DL> People talk of a 20 gal tank, even here we have to wonder
AW> DL> is it a high? a long? a what? ;-)
AW> So why is it done like that in the US?
JM> Like a person with mainly mid water fish, can have a better display
JM> with a long tank. Others that keep fish like Angels, may want a tall
Long tanks that are longer then wider also
while take more length, can fit in say hallways
or small rooms with less wideth allowing more room
to move past the tanks.
Longs also have more water surface area, as you well know
I prefer a long over a short.
JM> like a 75 gallon tall.
a 75 gal tall will hold less then a 75 gal long (in fish w/o air
pumps) do real hobbyists buy the Talls?
AW> DL> It can even be a octagon type.
AW> !!!!!!!!! ;-)
JM> Or even a triangle tank, many call a corner tank. Or there's the odd
JM> ball tanks like a tank that is really 2 sections connected by one or
JM> more tubes, in the middle etc. on the last ones you mainly figure the
JM> 2 sections and forget about the tubes, since they have no surface
JM> area.
Heheh, you probably have him thinking we are
crazy indeed over here ;-)
It only shows how hard it can be to really know
what kind of tank a person is using if they say
"oh I run a 65 gal" Theres alot of fancy "showy" types
like the 5,6,7 sided round types and all kinds of
custom built ones too.
