i don't think its really an "ego" thing... think about it... with
the advent of win9x and the earlier instability of win3x, the ability to
keep a system up and operational for an extended time is a feat that many
have strived for... even a raw, total M$, install of win9x would fall over
in relatively short time and that's with nothing being done on it... i've
seen and done that >

with DOS, you could leave the machine on 24x7 running a program or not and
it was always stable and availabe for use... then we got the bugs and
features and lost the stability and people thought it was natural and/or
normal... however, things are changing, once again, for the better...
