I dunno Richard. The part of the universe that I can actually see
isn't well enough rendered so that I can tell that it is, in fact,
infinite. I look up at night, and I see what folks call 'stars'.
It makes sense to consider them at vast distances, and that the
vastness beyond them may be infinite, but I cannot prove it. It
may only be so vast that I cannot tell the difference between it
being infinite or not.
The number line extends so far that I cannot not tell either. For
all practical purposes, I use the idea of 'infinite' but wonder if
the word 'indefinite' might not be more appropriate from the view
of philosophy rather than math.
