the earlier reference to hpt was about randomly losing or truncating the conf
file... that may be something outside of hpt but the system(s) where the tosser
conf file has gotten messed up have been running hpt... some were self compiled
while others were using a binary they got from somewhere... it has only been
mentioned a few times over the last decade or so and no one seems to have
placed a finger on the actual problem...
