In the only book I've read on the subject (published by SAMS) they
said that you could produce up to 500 gallons a year, but it had to be
denatured by adding benzene to it. The book was written in the late
'70s or early 80;s I believe, so the information is probably out of
date.
I like the idea of alcohol as fuel because we are then not dependant
on external resources to run our infrastructure (trucking, etc). And
because independant fuel producers would pop up all over the place (as
well as personal use producers). With all this garbage about mandating
sales of electric vehicles, etc. I think it would be more productive
to mandate alcohol capable systems. (although I balk at the thought of
the government mandating anything, but if they have to they should at
least make it something useful).
(boy, now I'm gonna get flamed by the electric car folks...)
