1237a692d0c0 tech Hello Robert - --8<--cut CA>> Is it possible that this 'give' might help avoid the tires CA>> breaking loose and sliding on wet pavement or in the rain? CA>> Some factors of what is 'good' don't always feel quite CA>> right if you're not used to it. RS> Well, I pressed both sets pretty hard to see if they would RS> break on wet pavement. Neither set broke with more than RS> sane stress applied. I want to know where the limits are so RS> as not to exceed them in an emergency, but I never reached RS> the wet traction limits with either set of tires. Maybe I'm RS> just too chicken. I do the same. I don't think you are 'chicken'. No point in doing damage to yourself or the vehicle but a few tests (before an emergency) are a good idea. RS> The way that I first noticed the difference was when I RS> tried to avoid someone coming into my lane without noticing RS> that I was already there. The sway could very easily cause RS> you to oversteer. The other set of tires were much more RS> stable. This is true. I run with 10-15% extra air in my tires to help me in those maneuvers. :-) CA>> My MGB could do a 'bootleg' at 50mph on an 8 lane highway CA>> (2 way x 4 lanes each) using Dunlops but they were CA>> noticeably 'soft' when going in a straight line. Of course CA>> this was a controlled drift going sideways through the CA>> bootleg. ;-) RS> All the Dunlops I've used were soft and sticky. Great RS> performance with control, but, the life was always short. Great tires on a geat car. The MGB was a consistent winner in it's class. :-) --8<--cut CA>> Cornering isn't as important although it's a factor in the CA>> rain etc. I mainly want the proper siping for slippery CA>> roads and stopping power. If I can stop the rest is easy. CA>> :-) RS> Stopping and manuvering out of the way of others who can RS> not stop or who do not see are important here. In the AUTOMOTIVE echo there are guys with lots of $$$ who put dual calipers on all four wheels with vented rotors. THEY can STOP!!! > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
