That means it's not the copy that installed 0.53 -- it's a new one that can
only be installed because it isn't there already, and hasn't installed
anything, including itself.

If it were the copy that installed 0.53, the first screen would be a list of
installed packages (Audio/Data-CD-Creator V0.53, CDRecord/2 (aka CdrTools),
and Generic Installer -- in my former setup, not now) followed by buttons to
check the selected package, show its admin file (GI's records), deinstall it,
or exit.

As I said, I never got a new GI to deinstall something it itself did not
install. I am afraid you have to clean up both the disk and the ini files by
hand before you can proceed. Sorry.

If it's any consolation, PMView caused the same problem when it switched from
the old IBM installer to WarpIn.
