I would like to add that I think intelligence is built on
1. mother child bond
(language would be way to communicate child's needs to mother)
2. strong social behavior.

Note that Dolphins do NOT have stereo eyes, thumbs, or tool builders - but they
are highly social, and strong mother child bonds - as do us and the apes.
